My Journey Begins

As my journey began as a learner I reflect on the struggles I had through K-12 grade.  I am a September "baby" and as September babies know if you were not held by your parents you were one of the youngest in your class.  I remember at a young age always feeling as if I was one step behind my peers.  While I was able to "hold my own" in reading math has always been a struggle for me.  I am a visual learner, needing to take notes and highlight everything. I  also have difficulty processing information and need to talk through many concepts.
As I reflect on my teaching and my students learning I feel I incorporate  the 21st century learning strategies in my teaching but I need to push my students to a higher level of competencies.  As an educator this will also challenge me to step out of my comfort zone and allow them to become more independent with their learning.

About Me

As I reflect on myself while writing this blog I am both nervous and excited.  I am nervous because I have never blogged before and excited to see where this blogging takes me as an educator.  My story here in Reno began with a blind date. I was born and raised in California.  I was set up on a blind date by a friend who moved here.  After two years of a "long" distant relationship I moved here in 1998. Getting married in 1999. Becoming a teacher was my second career.  While I had always wanted to be a teacher I  found myself in different career paths in California. My husband was the one that "pushed" me into getting my credential. One of the best decisions I have ever made. In 1999 I was offered a job as a sixth grade teacher at Veterans Elementary school.  I have only taught at Veterans ES being there for 16 years.   In 2001 I was blessed with a beautiful daughter Isabella and then in 2004 with another daughter Talia. Some of my passions are spending time with my family, reading, hiking,  and watching the SF 49ers.
